Turmeric: Anti-Inflammatory Superfood

Need to spice up your life a little? Use some turmeric! (hehe)

Turmeric is an amazing little orange root that originally comes from Southern Asia, traditionally used in cuisine, medicine, and spiritual rituals. It is at the top of all the “Superfood” ranking lists and often labeled as the best alternative to medicine,  mostly due to its extremely valuable anti-inflammatory properties. The powerful compound found inside is called curcumin, which is a powerful anti-oxidant and ant-inflammatory.

Many studies also show that Turmeric can improve brain function, lower the risk of heart disease, prevent/ possibly treat cancer and Alzheimer’s, help fight depression and aging.

Here at Lou’s we love all natural ingredients and can’t help but smile when we find ingredients that taste good and do good. Turmeric has a strong yellow tint and pungent taste, but pairs perfectly with both sweet and salty treats.

As I continue to recover from last week’s Marine Corps Marathon, I am desperately looking for some quick fixes. Although my body isn’t as destroyed as I thought it would be, my calfs are still sore, I can’t move my right hip and my shin splints are burning like fire- running is definitely not in the radar for the next couple of weeks. I know I need to give my body the rest and fuel it needs, but I am definitely in need of some extra help- and that is why I am turning to turmeric for this month’s #recovery.

Look out for a new SWEET TREAT  recipe featuring turmeric coming this week 🙂
